Locals First is a winner control that allows you to give verified local fans priority access to your launch product. Customers who qualify as “local” will be given preferred status at winner selection (they aren’t guaranteed to win).
How it works
- Set a Locals First radius around one or more of your Shopify locations.
- Verified entries from customers within the radius will be prioritized at winner selection. Eligibility is determined by the shipping address the customer provides, as well as any fraud signals associated with their entry.
- Choose whether to display a “Locals First” badge on the launch page to signal to customers that local fans will be prioritized.
Setting up Locals First
- After creating a launch, go to the winner controls section of the launch details page. In the Locals First section, click “Add location.”
Select from your locations and set a radius. Click "save."

View your Locals First entries count in the metrics bar and demand insights table, once the launch is open.

💡 EQL continuously runs fraud analysis in the background during your launch, and updates the metrics bar and demand insights table every 5-10 minutes depending on entry volume and winner controls you’ve enabled. To view the most recently available data snapshot, please refresh your browser. The “last updated” timestamp appears under the insights table.
- You can edit your radius, add/remove locations, and turn the feature on/off at any time before processing the launch. Any entries that have already been submitted will be re-categorized based on your new settings.
- After the launch has been processed, view how many Locals First entrants successfully purchased the product (by variant, if applicable).
FAQs
- What happens if I have Locals First and VIP and Blocklists enabled?
- VIP status overrides Locals First: if a VIP customer is within your Locals First radius, they will be treated as a VIP. Their entry will be included in your VIP metric only.
- Blocklisted status overrides Locals First: if a blocklisted customer is within your Locals First radius, they will still be blocked.
- Can I edit a Locals First radius while the launch is open?
Yes, you can edit your radius, add/remove locations, and turn the feature on/off at any time before processing the launch.
Note: Any changes you make to your Locals First settings will be applied to all entries, including those that have already been submitted. For example, if you increase your radius you may see your Locals First entries count go up as previously ineligible entries now fall within the Locals First zone.
